Lauren Popp, assistant curator at the New Children's Museum, descirbes the proliferation of artist-driven spaces in San Diego at our "Meeting of the Minds" event.
All over town, artists are opening spaces to show their own and fellow artists’ work. Lauren Popp’s got her finger on the pulse of what’s happening in local visual art. She’s an assistant curator at the New Children’s Museum.
“These spaces really create community and they are a vital platform for young, emerging artists,” Popp said.
Popp joined us at our “Meeting of the Minds” event this week atop Westfield Horton Plaza’s parking structure. She painted that explosion in context, using 20 images displayed for 20 seconds each. Here’s a video of her presentation, filmed by our partners at the Media Arts Center.
Here are some links to the spaces she talked about:
• David White’s Agitprop in North Park.
• Helmuth Projects in East Village.
• Periscope Project, repurposed cargo containers, in East Village.
• Voz Alta in Barrio Logan.
