Mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher heads out to surf with friends and supporters on Election Day in San Diego.
Shepard then sent a blast to Fletcher supporters exclaiming Filner’s virtues under the subject line: “Our city needs Nathan Fletcher.”
So does that mean Fletcher’s on board now with Filner? Not yet, he said in an email to supporters.
There has been a lot of discussion this week about my role in the upcoming mayor’s race. I am currently on a trade mission in Asia and have not been a direct part of these discussions. But rather than rely on rumors and guesses, I want you to hear directly from me about my thoughts on the race.
I have not yet endorsed a candidate for Mayor.
One candidate has publicly courted my support and assistance and one has privately courted my supporters. At the end of the day, I will weigh in on the race if I see a clear and compelling reason one candidate will be better for San Diego.
I still care deeply about our city and hope both candidates continue to grow beyond their partisan bases and embrace the opportunities we have as a great city. If and when I make a decision on the race, I will let you know.
For now, I am focused on finishing my term in the State Assembly where I want to pass my remaining legislative agenda and hopefully finish a tax reform issue I’ve been working on since first elected.
I get asked a lot what the future holds for me. I’m in the State Assembly through December and later this fall will decide what is next. I have had a lot of great offers and interests in a variety of areas. I’ll keep you posted as things come together.
And as always, please call or email if you have questions.
Thank you again for your amazing support. It truly meant the world to me.
