Buy Our Bonds

Sanders with his Swiss Army Knife
I just got a copy of the PowerPoint presentation Jay Goldstone used at his speech yesterday to a group gathered at The Bond Buyer newspaper's annual California conference.

Goldstone, of course, is the mayor's chief operating officer, chief financial officer and auditor. Let me know if you see anything interesting in his remarks.

It's upside down?

I did a Document, Rotate Pages, 180 degrees, and corrected the PDF which is an option in Acrobat Professional. I'm sure the patter that accompanied this presentation would have been entertaining. The notion that the city's problems may have been perceived rather than real is certainly amusing. And memo to Jay Goldstone: the new mayor has a few credibility issues (think Sunroad) and don't move "restore community confidence" into the "task completed column."

Wouldn't it be right-side up to Standing on my Head?

Gosh this is the first time I have ever seen anyone say there is no money problem that can't be solved. Other favorite quotes... I am assuming he uttered the statement that problems are percieved more than real... therefore the bullet on the slide. Goldstone really is a loyal soldier. At what point does a perceived problem become a real problem because so many people perceive it?

I don't get the Swiss Army Knife reference. Humor attempt? Is Goldstone Swiss? Does he come with tweezers and toothpick tucked behind his ears? Or is he just handy for the mayor because he comes equipped with a corkscrew?

Sorry that the pdf was upside down for so long. It should be corrected now.

Notice under Internal Controls that the priorities are: Restore Community Confidence and Restore Market Confidence. What's missing is: Restore Employee Confidence. City officials think they can compensate for all the experienced city employees bailing out by outsourcing the work to consultants and private businesses. City employee morale has suffered so much during the past few years that many employees are counting the days until they can leave. Hundreds of competent, educated and experienced police officers, engineers, firefighters and others have left to work elsewhere. Losing these employees will directly impact the levels of service in the communities. Sanders' administration focuses on cuts while turning a blind eye to the hundreds of vacancies in all departments. Sanders can't run this city with only a handful of managers earning 6-figure salaries. He needs a core of line employees, and that resource is dwindling fast.
