Vigilant Verity

By John Roberts, Kensington

July 16, 2008| I listened to Will Carless' interview on KPBS and I can't help but wonder if the first two people who called in weren't put up to it by the very people he investigated. Good God, I think the majority of us feel grateful to have a journalist such as him in San Diego. With so much corruption in government today, the only way to keep 'em honest is through a vigilant press. Thank you and keep up the good work.

A vigilant press indeed: and one widely discussed and credited. At last year's Regional Journalism Awards the VOSD walked away with over a dozen trophies and this year they'll probably require a wheel-barrel just to get out the door. To the conservatives they're the ghost of Izzy Stone and to the progressives the spectre of Walter Winchell. They must be doing something right, imho. The technical advancements, the addition of the video and vocal links, and the ever funny cartoons demonstrate that they haven't been resting on their laurels. However it's all for naught unless we join the ranks of the subscribers and send this worthy 501c3 a tax deductible contribution to support their efforts. So if you're wondering where you'll be putting your charitable contributions this year I'd recommend the VOSD. They're earning every penny and are very deserving of our consideration.

I couldn't agree more. I check Voice of San Diego several times a day to see what is really going on in San Diego. I don't know how VoSD does it on what must be a shoestring operation (I do, by the way, send a yearly donation...I just wish it could be more). I have no confidence in the Union-Tribune's coverage, and I can't watch or listen to news at work. While the U-T, Reader, and CityBeat show obvious political biases, I get the feeling VoSD is really trying to get to the truth. Too rare these days. Many thanks!

I was that third caller to the KPBS show. Sorry I didn't do so well, but I felt the clock ticking. I just want to illustrate that this type of abuse has been going on for a long time. $1 Billion of Downtown Bond debt, CCDC board members profiteering, and former Assembly Representatives still getting paid by City of San Diego after being SEDC founders/Boardmember that caused many friends to get rich off our tax dollars: William Jones. In fact his abuse caused the City to pay out even more funds more than a decade after first abuse!! daniel_beeman@yahoo P.S. 1st caller was personally benefiting by being a affordable housing project employee=fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.
