Wednesday, July 06, 2005 | Valerie and Harry Cooper Celebrate 20 Years at “Club Cooper”

Spherical lighting inspired by the ’60s, round floral displays by Kathy Wright, giant neon lighting of barely clad girls, dancing go-go girls, acrobats on bar tops, a Casbah/Asian-decorated VIP disco lounge…it was all there and more.

The party was decadent to the nines, with sumptuous buffets of beef, seafood, sushi and ethnic foods. The Moet Chandon champagne flowed and the entertainment was astounding. “Elton John” performed in his famous feathered suit. Tina Turner and Cher cross-dressers from Lips heated things up to “Disco Inferno” levels.

The real toasts of the evening were Valerie, beautiful in crystal-studded denim, and her handsome Versace-attired man, Harry. They wanted to celebrate with friends and they did!

The guests included Nancy Gold and Fred Applegate,; Diane and Roy Bell; Scott Johnston; Joyce and Ed Glazer; polo player Suzanne Figi; Gee Gee and Victor Fargo; Bill and Susan Evans of the Evans’ Hotels; Lee and Frank Goldberg; Bea and Bob Epsten; and Janice and Dr. Rich Richley.

Also attending were real estate mega-selling duo Judy and Peter Corrente; Paula and George Hauer of George’s at the Cove; Sue and Ron Heller; Carole Laventhol; Jeanne and Bill Larson of The Collector Fine Jeweler and Pala Mines; Suzanne and John Koch; Nancy Kruezer; Marshall Clark, Sharon Tabak and Sami Ladeki of Sammy’s Pizza, Fresh, Roppongi’s and Blackhorse Grille restaurants; Barbara and Neil Kjos; Theresa and Harry Hixson; a trouser to jacket-jeaned Burl Stiff; Denise and Bertrand Hug of Bertrand at Mr. A’s and Mille Fleurs Restaurants; Linda Swortwood in a fun disco wig with her husband Don; Lisa and Gary Bosstick; Sheri and Dr. Stuart Jamieson; and Kathleen and Tim Kruer. Kathleen was dressed in Chanel with sparkle-filled Yves Saint Laurent heels – quite disco chic. Another sparkler was Kelise Ward in a crystal brassiere-styled top.

Other guests included Joan and Irwin Jacobs, fresh back from a great trip to St. Petersberg. More Jacobs family were Debby, Hal, Deni and Jeff.

Valerie said that the fun actually had started early the day before. Upon nibbling on some of her favorite kettle corn at home, Valerie came upon a fun “little sparkle” surprise planted by her clever Harry. The biggest sparkle is obviously the love in their eyes and sharing their happiness with friends.

La Jolla Country Club celebrates the Fourth of July

Among the many there this year were Liz and Peter Gotfredson; Gina and Rob Hixson; Ingrid Hibbens; Kathy and Brad Geier; Betty and Jack Beardsley; Pam Scanlon, solo since her police husband, assistant chief Lou Scanlon, was dutifully working the beach area; the entire Rudolph clan of Harry’s Coffee Shop, except patriarch Harry who was not well enough to come; Laura McDonald and Chris Wyer; Nick and Jane Wyer; Anseth and Keith Richards; Judy and John Haller; and Poo Wyer with her husband John Amberg.

Adults and kids all enjoyed fabulous music by the Big Band Express and quite a fireworks show, which conveniently ended just as the La Jolla Cove fireworks show started.

San Diegans Going Cowboy Chic up North

More San Diegans included NFL Football Hall of Fame’s Bill McColl and his wife Barbara. They’ve gone to Alisal Ranch for years with family.

Other San Diegans included Cynthia and Martin Buser from Carmel Valley. While enjoying the Solvang area tranquility, the Buser’s noticed from afar one low-key guest enjoying time with family and friends. Yes, it’s hard not to be noticed when you are a fabulous actress like Diane Keaton in her signature “Annie Hall” bowler hat.
