Wednesday, August 03, 2005 | It all started years ago, in 1955, when Irma Macpherson started the Globe Guilders at the behest of the Old Globe’s legendary award-winning actor/director Craig Noel. The result today is a 300-strong member group who lead the way for raising funds for the Old Globe’s community outreach and educational programs. The Globe Guilders also make the cast and crew of Old Globe productions feel welcome and at home during their stays.

This year, Craig Noel, who just turned a young 90, can smile proudly as yet another Globe Guilder’s fundraiser turned fashion into fundraising. Saks Fifth Avenue, in conjunction with Boaz Mazor, the handsome right-hand man of Oscar de la Renta, staged quite the fashion show at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Co-coordinating the show with the luncheon for a sellout crowd of 800-plus was the incredible chairperson Mary Johnson, co-chairperson Phyliss Parrish and Guilder president Jane Cowgill.

They were happily joined by many, including Ophelia Alksne in a chic black suit and hat, Susie Barbey-Booth in demure beige suit, Pat Whalen, Judy White, Mary Walker in a fabulous broad-brimmed black straw hat, Isabelle Wasserman, Birquitta White, Emma Zuckerman, Carol Yorston, Jeanne Beach-Eigner and almost Elisabeth Bergan. Elisabeth was way laid by emergency dental surgery.

More there supporting the award-winning Old Globe were Arila Saint Laurent, Afife De Baloyan, Gita Theodossi, Linda Swortwood in summery white suit and hat, Dawn Triemstra, Sally Thornton making a late but “well-suited” entrance, Elene and Sandy Solomon, Susie Spanos of the Charger’s family, Hermeen Scharaga, Celia Sepulveda, Leila Raya, Annette and Laura Ruttemiller, Ina and Rusty Bartell, Toni Bloomberg, Susan Blanchard, Gail Bostwick, Judi Freeman, Lee Goldberg, Pauline Foster, Martha Gafford, Joan Bowes Gilmore, Betty Brayshay, Ellen Bryson, Karin Camp, Linda Canada, Susan Clifton, Valerie Cooper lovely in a sleeveless and crystal accented pale green Oscar de la Renta dress and Derelys Delano – her husband was a co-founder of Jack in the Box.

Still more enjoying a lovely light lunch of cold peach soup, honey lime grilled halibut with Asian-styled vegetables, and wickedly decadent edible chocolate-filled pots de crème, were Gail Dill, Barbara Doren, Bea Epsten, Dianne Bashor, Alberta Feurzeig, Dick Ford, Sima Foroozan, Pat Gillespie, Joyce Glazer beautiful in a white Chanel suit, Fran Golden, Lola Green, Daran Grimm, Carol Hanson, Kay Taylor Hopkins, Cathy Hunt – her niece is the famous Oscar winning actress Helen Hunt – artist Judith Jarcho, Joseph Jessop Jr., Jessica Montgomery Johnson, the always “feather boa-ed” Luba Johnston, Wanda Kaufman, Kitty Kaufman, Karen Kessler, Peggy Matthews, Maggie Mazur, Pat Montalbano, Marilyn and Kim Pavel, Rosemarie Pipitone, and Lynn Krant of SK Sanctuary Spa and Dianne York Goldman (in white Dolce & Gabbana) of La Jolla Spa MD. Lynn and Dianne both donated fabulous spa items for every guest’s gift bag. On the down low, Dianne is about to launch her own DYG cosmetic line. Looks to be fabulous!

Fabulous too are the net results from this Globe Guilder’s Event and the kickoff to the Old Globe’s 2005-2006 season, starting with The Old Globe Gala on September 17th, 2005.
