Nominated for several of theater’s Tony Awards, “Jersey Boys” took home four wins out of eight nominations, including the prize for Best Musical.

In addition, “Jersey Boys’” John Lloyd Young took home the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and Christian Hoff won for Best Performance by a Feature Actor.

La Jolla Playhouse’s Artistic Director Des McAnuff originally directed the musical at the Playhouse in October 2004. Though McAnuff didn’t pick up a Tony Award last night, he previously won Tony Awards for “Big River” and “The Who’s Tommy.”

“Jersey Boys,” which eventually made its way to Broadway, is based on the lives of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Interested in seeing some of McAnuff’s work? He’ll be directing the highly anticipated fourth opera of San Diego Opera’s 2007 season, Alan Berg’s “Wozzeck.”
