Wednesday, June 14, 2006 | With Lindbergh Field as the current airfield, since the obvious choice (Miramar) is unavailable for the near future, I wonder if Lindbergh could be expanded in its current footprint.

Other cities have the departure and arrival traffic arrive underground, or they have them stacked. Could we expand the airport over Pacific Highway and Harbor Drive? If all those service building were relocated elsewhere (say underground or along Pacific Highway, east side) would there be enough room for a 2nd runway? If MCRD was closed and training went 100 percent to Pendleton (a good portion of recruit training is done there now) would that give enough room for that 2nd runway?

I see a lot of parking on current airport land. Could that be moved and stacked? I see a lot of old warehouse buildings along Pacific Highway; could those be located and turned to airport use or parking? I think we could do more with the current site, can we hear from the experts on this subject?
