The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce announced the resignation of Jessie J. Knight Jr., the organization’s president and CEO. Knight is jumping to Sempra Energy, where he’ll serve as Executive Vice President of External Affairs.

According to Sempra, the 55-year-old will oversee “the company’s relationships with local, state, federal and international governmental and community organizations, as well as communications.”

Knight has worked at the chamber since 1999. Before that, he served as a commissioner of the California Public Utilities Commission.

Knight steps down from the chamber July 31; he starts at Sempra August 1. A committee has begun the search for his replacement.
