Tuesday, July 11, 2006 | Responding to Charge for Trash Pickup, letters to the editor, is difficult. This is another example of attempting to give our local government more money to spend recklessly. The revenue income to the city has grown significantly each year for at least 10 years but our officials have not provided the fiscal responsibility to manage that money. Instead, they spend spend spend, and now as Peters stated Friday, they want the citizens to give them more money for their out of control spending. Just look at the ballpark, Qualcomm, lawyers, consultants, and the establishment of an audit committee with a blank check as examples of their lack of fiscal responsibility. Their votes on the pension benefits in 1996 and 2002 re-enforce their lack of responsibility.

Bottom line: Why should we provide the local government more money without any assurances that they will use it for taxpayers’ best interests? The trust just is not there.
