City Attorney Mike Aguirre sent a letter to the audit committee consultants from Kroll informing them that they are not authorized to speak with news outlets or business groups. The letter says that Aguirre is suspicious that Kroll officials are leaking information about the report to an editor at the Union-Tribune, a local newspaper.

He said that the Mayor’s Office needs to organize any media interviews involving Kroll’s probe into the city’s finances.

This letter is to remind Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Kroll Inc. that, under the governing contract with the City of San Diego, neither firm is authorized to disclose substantive information regarding the investigation and report being prepared for the City of San Diego to any media outlet, editorial board, private business, or community and business organizations prior to the release of the report at a public hearing of the San Diego City Council.
