Thursday, July 27, 2006 | I learned about public disdain for “sewer water” years ago, when I taught at Santana High School, in Santee. When the weather got warm, my teen-age students lost all their energy and constantly grumbled that “there’s nothing to do.”
I brightly suggested that they should head for the Santee Lakes and do some boating or fishing. A great groan went up:
What?! Sewer water?! Yuck.
Those kids are parents today and I doubt they’ve changed their minds. The engineers may be right and it’s probably perfectly OK to drink reclaimed water. However, there’s a yuck factor that will never go away.
