The San Diego North Chamber of Commerce has voted to oppose the November ballot initiative that would put an airport at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
The northern chamber, which represents an area stretching from Miramar north to Rancho Bernardo, voted 15-1 on Friday to oppose the airport plan. (Six people abstained.) The vote follows closely behind the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s endorsement last Thursday.
Gary Powers, president and CEO of the northern chamber, said the decision centered on the airport’s impacts on the military.
“We do not feel that we should be driving the military out of San Diego,” Powers said. “They’ve been a key component of this community.”
