My colleague, Andrew Donohue, and I were discussing whether The New York Times was the only newspaper outside Southern California writing about San Diego issues. (You may remember the NYT’s interview with voiceofsandiego.org editor Scott Lewis some weeks back. He certainly hasn’t let us forget.)

Anyway, the NYT isn’t the only paper out there with an eye on San Diego.

The Sacramento Bee’s M.S. Enkoji took a look at San Diego’s beach smoking ban today – even invoking Oscar-nominated film “Hustle and Flow” in the process.

“It’s hard out there for a smoker,” Enkoji writes. “And it just got a little harder in the seaside city of San Diego, where the City Council recently voted to ban smoking at public parks and beaches.”

The story is here. It’s worth a look, even if they did reference “Solano Beach.”

And a reader just wrote in to remind us that someone had the scoop on The New York Times seal story long before the story actually ran.
