The longstanding debate over the proposed Regents Road bridge in University City will be argued in front of the council Tuesday.

Mayor Jerry Sanders is recommending that the north and south ends of Regents Road be connected by bridge through Rose Canyon in order to alleviate traffic on Genesee Avenue and to improve public safety response times in the lower half of the suburban community. Opponents of the road say construction of the bridge will ruin the habitat in the canyon below and bring unneeded traffic to a quieter part of the town.

The great Will Carless set up the controversy pretty well a few weeks ago. Read it here.

The proposal will be considered sometime after 2 p.m. in the City Council chambers, located on the 12th floor of the City Administration Building, 202 C St., downtown.
