Vinson & Elkins will, of course, still be on the minds of the city of San Diego for some time even after the much-hyped Kroll report comes out tomorrow.

Recently, City Attorney Mike Aguirre put together one of his better “interim reports” about V&E and then proceeded to sue the law firm.

V&E, Enron’s former legal advisors, didn’t respond then. But the firm has now. Texas Lawyer just posted a story about Aguirre’s suit and it had a statement from Vinson & Elkins:

We strongly disagree with [Aguirre’s] conclusions regarding that work. V&E competently and professionally performed the work for which it was engaged and none of the work that it performed harmed the City in any way. In fact, the City benefited from the firm’s work. None of the claims made by Mr. Aguirre can be justified.

So we should, apparently, thank them.
