Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006 | Now is the time for decisive action. Our mayor needs to step up to the plate tomorrow. He needs to demand the resignation of the five council members whom have brought us this mess. He ran for the strong mayor position on a reform platform; he needs to act now. His campaign said he would renegotiate with the unions, he could get them to change. There has been no change: we still have the DROP program; we still pay golden retirements. There has been no privatization of city services. He wants to borrow money, pay off the illegal benefits and have our grandkids pay for it. He should lead the recall of these five “negligent” council members, He should cut the fat at city hall. I understand the council went on vacation for a month, great! While they are gone, let’s close their offices, remodel, and only leave room for a minimum staff. We won’t need them in the new smaller city government. If they don’t like it then “they can sue us.”
