Dear Scott Lewis,
I see you quoted me the other day. You got the quote right, but I do have to respond to your speculation.
No, I don’t believe Mayor Jerry Sanders will propose a tax increase. At least not during this term in office. He seems to clearly understand that the voters are not interested in rewarding the financial failures of previous administrations. And I think he truly believes that doing so would just be wrong.
Now, you did refer to the mayor et. al. and while I’m sure of the mayor, I’m not so sure of the et. al.. I can see a circumstance where the mayor presents the council with a budget pill that is so bitter, they choke on it and propose a tax increase themselves. They will be egged on by such things as editorials
promoting a repeal of the People’s Ordinance.
Another thing … the stages I mentioned are longer than just a few years. When I think of cycles of attitude, I’m thinking more along the lines of 10-15 years. Maybe that’s just because I’m older than you are.
