Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 | In response to “Pay Up, San Diego,” I would remind the writer that four of the council persons can not be reelected. They are term limited.
I believe their actions, lack of action, fiscal irresponsibility, lack of honesty and lack of integrity will keep them from any other political office or future. They have failed the city and its citizens for years. The old boys club of go along to get along has been prevalent for a number of administrations. I think this will seal their future in politics.
That being said, if the council were truly interested in reform and had any real concern for the citizens they would consider resigning. But, that will not happen. Additionally, they should have referred the Kroll report to the IBA for an independent analysis. Instead, Peters just pushed the analysis off to the mayor. The only council person to try to get a review of the report by the IBA was Mr. Young.
How many of these council people have we seen attempting to change the type of retirement system that the city currently has in place? They are too worried about their special interest groups that they have catered to for years.
Expecting positive action from this council group is a pipe dream.
