Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 | In re: Scott Lewis and “Who am I to Tell Them to Leave,” I take difference to his point. America is founded on laws, it is that simple. If it was in America’s ability to take care of the world’s health, there would be no immigration laws to break, but the simple truth is America can not be the bandage for the rest of the world’s ill habits. We are just not that strong.

The world’s ill’s include but are not limited to: the uncontrolled birth rates that are clearly unsupportable, lack of education, even the basics, poor medical care, if present at all (America has new diseases that are incurable with the current drugs we have at our disposal and America’s doctors are finding new ones almost daily brought into America by illegal Immigration). America needs immigrants to survive and prosper, but not the uneducated poorest of all the third world countries that are currently storming our borders from Mexico.

What America needs are immigrants who respect America’s laws in getting here, thus proving that they respect America’s right to rule itself and will probably respect the laws once arriving here, who have at least a basic education making it possible for them to enter the economy above the lowest rungs. America does not need to import ignorance. All we have to do is look to our inner cities for that. What America needs is educated and healthy diversified immigration to meet America’s hunger for educated immigration – not the flocks of law breakers that are currently storming our borders every day from Mexico and her southern neighbors. Immigrant peoples who make speaking English a high priority and in turn obey all of America’s laws – one need only to look at America’s emergency rooms to see the result of the current immigrants gifts to America. We can not afford to feed the world nor can we cure its ills, that is why we have borders – to keep out unwanted ills of the rest of the world. And we have the right to do so. Rather than confuse the issue, just remember illegal immigrants are just that – illegal. Is that who you want for your neighbor? I sure do not want them as my neighbor!
