A quick desalination update: Poseidon Resources Corp., the Connecticut-based company developing the Carlsbad desalination plant, has sent its application to the California Coastal Commission.

The commission is the final permit for the desalination plant, which would convert 100 million gallons of saltwater each day into 50 million gallons of drinking water. (The other 50 million gallons would be returned to the ocean, twice as salty.)
