Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 | OK, so the Navy is not cooperating in the grand plans for the airport and Broadway complex. Question: What did San Diego and the port district do with the waterfront that was not controlled by the military? Answer: Everything for tourists and nothing for SD citizens. Hotels and the Convention Center walling off access to our waterfront; Harbor Island with almost no facilities for locals; and rental car firms (!) occupying the waterfront. No sympathy here for the visionaries.
