Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 | Loved your piece on the history of military in San Diego. Principi was wrong. San Diego has grown up in spite of the military here. Only when visionaries decided to “do something” about the blighted areas of this city did we grow a little. Before Gaslamp, the area was filled with porno shops and it was where the Navy men used to hang out, etc…It took redevelopment in the urban core to change this and then still took another 30 years!
