At a press conference earlier today, City Councilmembers Donna Frye and Jim Madaffer railed against a four-page mailer the airport authority sent out this week. Nearly 800,000 people got the mailer, which cost the authority $197,000 to produce and mail.
The two officials questioned the mailer’s timing – Election Day is Nov. 7 – and wondered whether it was timed to influence voters’ opinions. Frye also announced her formal opposition to the ballot measure.
The airport authority says it is trying to educate the public about the three-year site selection process that culminated with the choice of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar as the best place for a new commercial airport.
We’re working on a story about this. We’ll have it posted later tonight. But to end any suspense, check out the mailer here.
And check out my story when it’s up.
