Since voiceofsandiego.org is a mostly news site, there’s not much room for arts listings. Since I do get to review theater, I thought I’d give a shout-out to some current and upcoming shows.

  • The Wiz,” directed by Des McAnuff is playing at La Jolla Playhouse through Nov. 12. I didn’t attend/review this one, so if you do, send me an e-mail and let me know what you thought.
  • Big news from the Old Globe where the West Coast premiere of the Tony award-winning musical “Avenue Q” will take place.
  • In other Old Globe news, If you haven’t seen “Hershey Felder: Gershwin Alone,” go. And an added bonus is after “Gershwin,” for one week only, Felder will star in “Monsieur Chopin” at the Old Globe.
  • The Lyric Opera San Diego is back with its 2006-2007 season opener, “The Merry Widow,” which runs until Oct. 26.
  • Doubt,” the Tony award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-winning play will run Oct. 26-Nov. 5 at the Civic Theatre. Featuring Cherry Jones.

This is just a handful of performances on the horizon in San Diego. Theater folks: I’m here all day, so if you’d like to see something posted, e-mail me. I’ll get to the opera season next post.
