Following up on an earlier post: The San Diego Association of Governments released (and appeared on) a best-commuting-workplace list today.

The list, produced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency – not SANDAG – recognizes San Diego businesses that encourage employees to carpool to work.

“SANDAG prides itself on walking the walk not just talking the talk,” said Allison Richards-Evensen, SANDAG’s RideLink manager.

SANDAG subsidizes transit passes for employees who take the bus, trolley and coaster to work. The group also has an employer-sponsored membership to FlexCar, a car-sharing program. It offers onsite amenities, too: showers and a small kitchen for commuters. And the building has a deli.

Richards-Evensen, who rides the bus (Commuter Express Route 860) to work, says the deli is deli-cious.

“It’s fabulous,” she said. “I eat there by choice, not because I have to.”
