Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 | If you voted for a “Strong Mayor” form of government, sorry.

If you voted for smilin’ Jerry, I feel even more sorry for you.

After only 10 months, the inept vouncil and the mayor that should not be, are squabbling.

I had premonitions of this. It was bound to happen because jealousy over who has the

power is a very strong emotion.

Jerry wanted the council to confirm the new budget. The council threw a fit (at least Madaffer did) claiming that they had not had sufficient time to review it. Good argument.

Seems that Jerry believes the council should confirm everything he puts out. Ha!

This budget was constructed “to save money,” so in lieu of getting rid of the fat and pork barrel spending, Jerry deigns to withdraw funds supporting a swimming pool program used by the more needy children of our fine city.

He then proceeds to underfund a social services program that helps the homeless try to better themselves. Unbelievable.

And he wants the council to participate in these stupid decisions? I cannot fault the council for not wanting to be a part of this deal.

Perhaps Jerry has not yet learned that his responsibilities as mayor is to all citizens; not just the rich.

His main focus now should be on cutting spending and attacking waste, inefficiency and corruption. So far, he has earned an “F” in all of the above.

To begin with, he hired a group of people that cost the city six figure salaries.

Now he wants a “monitor” and all the staff that goes with him/her at a cost of $45 mil.

Would someone please enlighten this mayor that he is putting this city into a much deeper pit?
