Council President Scott Peters announced today that the afternoon portion of Tuesday’s meeting will be cancelled so that council members can attend the funeral of former Councilman George Stevens, who died Monday.

Stevens served on the City Council from 1991 to 2002. Services will be held at 1 p.m. at Bayview Baptist Church, located at 6126 Benson Ave. in Encanto.

Tuesday’s meeting was slated to feature votes on a resolution in support of the statewide infrastructure bond measures, which voters will consider Nov. 7; a study of the city’s water and sewer rates; and the confirmation of a city treasurer, which <>b>the council already postponed this week.

A spokeswoman from Peters’ office said a new date has not been set for the council’s consideration of those issues if they are not heard during a Tuesday morning session.
