Chargers: National City takes a step closer to building a stadium for the Chargers, while one of the best names in football and a key component of the Chargers top-ranked defense Igor Olshansky will be out a month or so after his injury last week in San Francisco. Voice staff writer Andrew Donohue writes the Chargers and National City have a long way to go before a stadium appears on the bayfront. Kevin Acee writes that Igor Olshansky will miss 3-4 weeks after surgery this week and San Diego’s inactivity before the trade deadline means Donnie Edwards will spend the rest of the year in a Chargers uniform.

Padres: Bruce Bochy is the big news of the week, as Sandy Alderson gave San Diego’s manager of 12 years permission to talk with other teams about filling managerial openings elsewhere. The Union-Tribune’s Tom Krasovic writes Bochy will interview for Giants job, while Tim Sullivan sympathizes with Bochy in his column and Krasovic talks about the Padres fascination with Oliver Perez
