City Councilwoman Donna Frye held a press conference today to assail Mayor Jerry Sanders’ privatization initiative, warning that the measure would lead to political cronyism and jeopardize public safety jobs.

Joining the primary union argument against the ballot measure, Frye called Proposition C “flawed” because it failed to include language protecting police and fire.

She said the initiative should be defeated and rewritten for the 2008 ballot to include the proper protections. “Make them do it right,” said Frye, who was joined by firefighters and other city employees.

The councilwoman, who supports the mayor’s other initiative, Proposition B, also warned that profit-seeking corporations and special interests could open the privatization measure up to chicanery.
