Monday, Nov. 6, 2006 | The city labor unions’ orchestrated flap about (gasp!) business contributions to Mayor Sanders and the coming business competition for city services is laughable. No one gives as much money and labor to city politicians as do the public employee unions. It is accurate to say that our labor unions bought themselves the San Diego City Council.
Moreover, businesses that contribute to encourage competitive bidding still have to compete with other businesses and the public employees to win a city contract. In stark contrast, the city labor unions contribute huge amounts of money and walk precincts to prohibit any competition with their cushy monopoly status as city providers.
