Remember when Monday morning quarterbacks stopped quarterbacking on Mondays? These days ESPN sounds more like Fox News, with talking heads pontificating from final seconds of the last game to the opening kickoff. All day and night, guys in suits and ties repeating the obvious and making “educated guesses” on the rest.

As the Monday morning quarterbacking extends through the week, a couple of points become clear from last week’s NFL action.

Rivers is good.

Maybe Chargers GM A.J. Smith wasn’t crazy to let Drew Brees slip away to the New Orleans Saints. Rivers is a good quarterback, and with time he could be great.

Hopefully he’ll be able to survive the hype.
