Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 | Re: “Chargers Alliance Returns.”

Here we go again. According to their website, the Fatcats, Traitors, and Billionaires (FTB) want to “focus the public debate on the facts as they are today, not the mistakes of the past.”

Yep. That’s a great way to move forward, allow the same jokers who got us into the mess a decade ago play their crooked games again. This group of self-interested liars “recognize the economic and community benefits” of public subsidies for billionaires.

According to Fabiani himself, the city is shelling out over $25 million a year to the Chargers (that’s without the ticket guarantee). Just this weekend, police had to arrest or cite over three dozen people at the game.

Certainly, we must all agree with FTB that it’s a wonderful community benefit to host drunken fist fights in the stands. Or maybe the community benefit comes from the magnificent team of contractors we imported here at such a high price…wait, also this weekend cops arrested yet another drunk driving football player downtown, but at least this time there was no felony assault or shooting thrown in. Great role models. Almost as good as those meth-snortin’ Padres.

Yes folks, let’s all rush out to join these FTBer’s. Afterall, we’re so rich from our previous “investments” in pro-sports that were gonna dump city workers. We’d be crazy not to give what little money we have left to Spanos. Paying out the nose for hosting professional football has been so very, very, very good for us all.

Go Chargers! Anywhere, please…quickly
