Friday, Dec. 1, 2006 | Surprise! “City Wants Out from Cross Case“.

Why am I not surprised that the city of San Diego wants to extricate itself from the Mount Soledad Cross mess they’ve made now that their illegal land transfer has been granted? What about the principle involved in seeing this through to the end? Have the deep emotions we’ve witnessed these past years regarding the importance of keeping this symbol of Christian faith on our landscape – trotted out frequently at City Council meetings – evaporated or were they never really that deep to begin with? Perhaps they were merely political pandering. Or perhaps the city doesn’t want to have to pay to clean up their mess, made by fighting an illegal battle for 17 years (which ultimately may not go their way) and they want to dump their fiscal responsibility off on the feds. The actions of our city government never cease to disappoint…though they have long ceased to surprise.
