Here’s a copy of the survey that National City sent out last month to its residents and businesses to collect their thoughts for how the city’s waterfront should be developed.
The survey was sent out as the team has worked with the port and the Chargers toward putting a new football stadium on a 52-acre bay-front plot owned by the port and BNSF Railway. The survey, however, doesn’t mention the Chargers specifically. Instead, “entertainment or sports facility (arena, football stadium)” is listed among one of a number of options put before residents and businesses.
City Manager Chris Zapata said the city has so far received about 2,000 surveys out of 16,000 sent out and expects to deliver the results to the City Council on Jan. 9 or Jan. 16.
The National City stadium idea appears to be on its last legs because of exorbitant infrastructure costs, but that could change if the public there expresses a strong desire in bringing sports to town.
