Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Barton will hear oral arguments over City Attorney Mike Aguirre’s objection to the judge’s December ruling, which significantly trimmed the pension lawsuit to a fraction of the $900 million Aguirre originally sought.

The hearing will be held Thursday at 3 p.m.

On Dec. 14, Barton ruled that the city’s past legal settlements blocked Aguirre from attacking the employee benefits in question. Four days later, Aguirre filed his objection.

Aguirre has indicated that he will challenge the ruling in appeals court if the objection failed. If Barton’s ruling remains, he said he would continue to seek stripping away the few remaining benefit increases not protected by the judge’s ruling.
