I love checking craigslist.org for rental listings just to see what my money will buy. In keeping with my theory that rents are mostly arbitrary, I find that what my money will buy depends on plenty of factors beyond just views, square footage and amenities — the rent depends on whether the person bought recently at a high price or 50 years ago. And sometimes it just depends on how much nerve the landlord has. I found this listing in Point Loma this morning and e-mailed the point of contact just to confirm what I was reading. Yes, this is a bidding war for a rental house. The point of contact said they are currently “taking offers.” The last bid was $2800 — how high will you go?
