Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 | Re: “Questions for Mary McLellan.” She says San Diegans are crazy about — mountains, ocean, Balboa Park, to be out to walk and hike. Then she advocates places like Shanghai because hundreds of thousands are moving in from the countryside.

Has she ever been there? The millions jammed together in substandard and smart growth-like dual use buildings have always been there. Shanghai’s expansion into the new city to the east is planned at less than half the density. That’s the Shanghai lesson to learn.
