Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 | I applaud Andrea Tevlin’s raising her voice to require the City Council’s approval before the mayor changes any budget allocations midyear.

Concern with good public policy is a worthy goal of the City Council.

There is an absence of an official plan to resolve the city’s financial crisis and the measures proposed to streamline city government are piecemeal and troublesome (increasing water/sewer rates and the selling off of city lands for example). Managing the city budget is an enormous function and the City Council and the Budget Analyst should be involved and part of the final decision making.
