Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 | The notion of a cross-border airport has so many pitfalls and question marks it should be pronounced DOA. I don’t go across the border for any reason. Mexico is largely still a third world country and Tijuana is still a city of drug lords and corrupt police. It has always been that way despite the best intentions to improve it. Horror stories of kidnappings and ransom exist among people we know. We have been shaken down by “police officers” and get in an accident there and you are guilty and off to jail. No proper medical care supplied and your only way to survive is to get back to the U.S.

No one in our family goes there and we would certainly not consider parking our cars there. An airport there would require a secure train system in and out of the airport and a U.S. police presence everywhere before I would ever think about using services in TJ. Orange County is just too close.
