The School Site Shuffle
The board also voted not to allow the Albert Einstein Charter Academy to relocate to the currently closed Cleveland Elementary School, the first choice of many Einstein parents. The board voted 3-2 to deny the move, based in part on the high cost to renovate the school and bring it up to safety standards. Instead, the board voted to offer Einstein the Brooklyn Elementary School site, which trustee Katherine Nakamura said was in excellent condition. Einstein’s principal Luci Fowers said she fears losing many students because parents do not want to drive to Brooklyn, which is further for many families than Cleveland.
