Business owners and residents and other folks living and working in Grantville have formed an activist group to fight the city of San Diego’s plan to redevelop their community.

They’re holding a press conference Monday morning to announce the group’s formation. Calling themselves the Grantville Action Group, they’ll go by “GAG” for short — and the connotation in that acronym of a violent physiological reaction is not coincidental, they say — “That’s what happens when redevelopment is shoved down our throats.”

For background on this issue, check out this story.

The county has sued the city over its redevelopment designation (under redevelopment, the city would garner tax dollars that would otherwise go to the county). The city and county are trying to settle that litigation, but a tentative court date has been set for the hearing on March 7.
