The group that sued the Pentagon over its environmental analysis of the Navy Broadway Complex has followed up with a similar lawsuit against the city of San Diego.

The move follows the city’s refusal to require more study of the hotel, office and retail project’s impacts on the surrounding waterfront area.

San Diego Navy Broadway Complex Coalition filed the civil complaint against the city and its downtown planning board Tuesday, alleging the agencies violated the California Environmental Quality Act by approving environmental studies that date back to 1990 because the project, the downtown community and information about both have changed substantially.

The City Council voted otherwise in January after the coalition appealed a similar decision the Centre City Development Corp. made in June.
