Monday, Feb. 26, 2007 | The best answer to the airport question has always been to have one airport serving the San Diego megalopolis. Placed somewhere along the border the area’s population of five million would still be less than the populations served by other large airports. Economy of scale and better service for both countries. Less footprint. About the same travel time for most San Diego residents. Why not? I think a lot of the verbiage we hear about “bi-national economic cooperation and one large interdependent market” is simply PR spin and neither side really wants to not be numero uno.
