Monday, March 26, 2007 | The problems surrounding the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF) seem to have finally begun to resolve thanks to the patient and collaborative efforts of Steven McDowell, Annette Easton and Katherine White. They have spent hours and hours talking to people and researching the issues that created problems for the district and the foundation. While steadfastly supporting the DMSEF, they have insisted on the implementation of changes at the district and the DMSEF to calm community concerns and correct policies that were not in compliance with the California Education Code or the California State Constitution. Together, with the new executive board of the foundation, this community can now move forward and get fundraising back on track.

I am very pleased with the efforts of Easton, McDowell and White and their persistent attention to solving this problem. We are very fortunate that they are willing to serve our community as trustees in this proactive way, since there are more challenging issues to resolve, like the Shores property. Even if this effort to include lots of people in the process is time consuming and subject to criticism right now, I fully trust that their commitment to listening to all parties and considering alternative points of view will serve us all extremely well in the long run.
