The dialog that occurred in response to my blog about transit is refreshing.

If only we could get the broader community engaged. We are plunging ahead with an accelerated effort to spend $40-50 billion that is not promised to reduce congestion, only mitigate its increase. So whatever you experience today will get worse in spite of this expenditure. Continued growth and the erosion of purchasing power due to escalating construction cost only means that we will need more and be able to afford less. In spite of mountains of plans, years of meetings, piles of expensive studies and billions of dollars spent this region is still faced with the same inevitability. Is gridlock our only destiny?
