Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., today questioned Kyle Sampson, the former chief of staff to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, about why Carol Lam was fired. Sampson said there was “never any connection” in his mind between asking her to resign and the investigation of disgraced former Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham.
“The real problem was her office’s prosecution of immigration cases,” said Sampson, who resigned in the wake of the scandal.
“That’s the sole reason she was asked to resign?” Specter asked.
“No sir,” Sampson replies.
