Supervisor Dianne Jacob received just two gifts last year, the least of any county supervisor. Both were flowers — a $98 bouquet from Robert Bowling, a Lakeside resident, and $78 in poinsettias from Paul Ecke Ranch in Encinitas.

In 2006, Jacob reported her largest investments in IBM, Apple Computer, Exxon Mobil and Amgen, the world’s biggest biotechnology company. The supervisor has between $100,001 and $1 million in stock in each company, according to her 2006 statement of economic interests.

Looking through her investments shows some smart moves on the stock market. She dumped three stocks last year, and all plummeted in the months after.

Jacob sold Home Depot stock last April. It’s down 11 percent since then. She sold Sprint Nextel stock in May, and it has fallen 20 percent since. Advanced Medical Optics, which she sold in September, has plummeted 23 percent.
