I got a lot of email in response to Thursday’s column about Fiesta Island. I’m glad you people put up with my digressions sometime. As I steel myself to launch into this budget in coming days, it’s nice to take a breather first and have a little fun with a commentary.

A few readers have asked about my dog. Dog people are like that. Hearing stories about dogs and what they’re like just makes them happy.

So here’s a picture of Cali and me at Dog Beach in OB.

Everyone always asks what kind she is. We’ve taken to calling her particular breed of mutt a “Weagle.” We think she’s part Beagle, part Whippet. I know, that sounds like a bizarre experiment gone awry but if you have any better ideas of her lineage, let me know. This picture doesn’t do the abnormality justice but her head is disproportionately small compared to the rest of her body.

I maintain that her absurdly small cranium creates an aerodynamic phenomenon that makes her walk slightly faster than most dogs.
