Last month, 433 San Diego County homeowners lost their homes to foreclosure, a more-than six-fold increase from the previous March, DataQuick Information Systems reported today.

That bests the previous record of 389 homes lost to foreclosure in October 1996.

Notices of default filed last month numbered 1,395, more than twice the 591 such notices sent in March 2006. The most NODs sent in any month was nearly 1,800 in January 1996.
